Social media a fun way to extend marketing efforts

Social media can be a cost-efficient way to extend your marketing efforts if handled strategically, Toronto trusts and estates lawyer Suzana Popovic-Montag tells Lawyers Weekly.

Popovic-Montag, managing partner of Hull & Hull LLP, tells the legal trade publication that becoming active on social media doesn’t have to take up all of your time.

“It’s important to be focused and strategic in the way you do social media,” she says. “It does take some time but it brings value, a good bang for your buck.

“The main value for our firm is that it’s an extension of our marketing, which also includes a quarterly print newsletter, speaking engagements and so on. And it’s a fun thing for us, not just work.”

Popovic-Montag tells Lawyers Weekly the firm’s 15 lawyers share in blogging and posting to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

The article suggests lawyers who are new to social media start by signing up to the major social networks such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. First become familiar with how each site works and then begin posting yourself.

“Once you start, keep going,” says Popovic-Montag. “You’ll find the more you do it, the easier it gets. Stay true to the path.”
