Honest feedback from clients helpful for lawyer improvement

Especially in family law where individuals are often dealing with difficult personal situations, it is essential for clients to feel their lawyer is helping them to make important transitions, and as such, it is a good idea for counsel to ask for feedback on their work and any areas for improvement, Toronto-area family lawyer Nicolle Kopping-Pavars tells The Lawyers Weekly.

“You can either do that during, so that you can make sure you’re maintaining your standards, or afterwards…because sometimes once a file is over, people will be more honest with you than during the file,” Kopping Pavars, principal of NKP Law, says in the article.

Kopping-Pavars also says she tells her clients at the outset that they need to inform her immediately if any issues arise during their working relationship.

“If you’re not going to let me know what I’m doing right or what I’m doing wrong, I can’t improve for other clients and I can’t serve you to the best of my ability,” she tells The Lawyers Weekly.
