Brown and Orlando to participate in OBA's insurance law debates

Critical injury lawyers Patrick Brown and Dale Orlando from McLeish Orlando will be participating in “The Great Debates in Insurance Law” at the Ontario Bar Association's Institute 2013 on Friday, February 8 in Toronto.

Brown will be co-chairing the panel from 9:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., featuring expert litigators debating contentious issues in insurance litigation with a focus on mediation strategies. The program will feature three debates with each one seeking input from attendees via a vote at the end of the debates.

Orlando will be participating in a discussion on effective strategies in lumping out and settling accident benefits from 10:15 to 11:05 a.m.

Participants will discuss issues such as:

  • what reports are necessary to seek a lump out?

  • do you need a future care report?

  • what are reasonable discounts?

  • what are cost/benefits to the insurer?

  • using burn rates in your numbers

  • obtaining and using structure quotes

  • the pros and cons of settlement

  • reversionary interests

  • negotiating structure terms


The panel is set to take place at the Westin Harbour Castle Conference Centre, at 2 Harbour Square in Toronto.
