Manslaughter charge laid after overdose death: police

PICTON, Ont. — Provincial police say they have laid a manslaughter charge after a 34-year-old man died from a carfentanil overdose.

Police say Travis Rosseau of Picton, Ont., was found unresponsive at a home in Hallowell Township on March 11 and was pronounced dead at the scene.

OPP say an autopsy confirmed Rosseau died from lethal levels of carfentanil, a highly powerful opioid.

Police say they arrested a 33-year-old man and charged him with manslaughter in Rosseau's death.

He is also charged with trafficking an opioid.

The man is scheduled to appear in a Belleville, Ont., court on Friday.
