Huberman named member of TCAS Executive Committee

Toronto mediator and commercial arbitrator Marvin Huberman is now a member of the Executive Committee of the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society (TCAS).

Huberman was acclaimed an Executive Committee member at the society’s Annual General Meeting and Conference held last month at the University Club of Toronto.

TCAS works to promote and develop a world centre for arbitration excellence to resolve international and domestic disputes by providing qualified arbitrators, exceptional facilities, experienced counsel, innovative research, and a supportive legal environment regardless of the location of the parties or their systems of law.

According to its website, TCAS promotes “the use of arbitration to resolve commercial disputes by:

  • developing alliances with other arbitral organizations and centres of learning;
  • sponsoring international conferences featuring preeminent practitioners as speakers;
  • advocating supportive international and domestic legislation;
  • providing a forum and network for the exchange of ideas on all aspects of international and domestic arbitration; and
  • promoting and understanding of available rules and arbitral institutions to facilitate commercial arbitration.”

In addition to receiving his Bachelor of Laws from the University of British Columbia in 1982, Huberman holds a mediation certificate from Harvard Law School, an arbitration certificate from the University of Toronto, and his Master of Laws in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Huberman — a litigator, mediator and arbitrator — received the designation of Chartered Arbitrator (C. Arb) by the ADR Institute of Canada, indicating his degree of skill and experience as a professional in the field.

The TCAS Executive Committee consists of five members, who serve for two-year terms.
