Bent to provide commentary at OBA 'Anatomy of a Trial' event
London personal injury lawyer Maia Bent will share her insights on examining and cross-examining a plaintiff during the ‘Anatomy of a Trial: A Deeper Dive Into Jury Trials’ event later this month, presented by the Ontario Bar Association Insurance Law section.
On April 29, Bent, partner with Lerners LLP, will provide commentary during two sessions, starting with the ‘examination in chief of plaintiff’ demonstration from 10:50-11:25 a.m., where a presiding judge, demonstrator and witness will discuss when is leading permitted and desirable, inoculating against harmful evidence, refreshing memory and the use of documents, procedure for admitting and marking exhibits, and making and responding to objections.
Bent will also provide commentary during the ‘cross-examination of a plaintiff’ demonstration from 11:25 a.m. – noon, where participants will learn how to deal with a difficult witness, how to impeach using prior statements and the procedure for impeachment using a transcript.
The event, which will offer a comprehensive examination of the best techniques for conducting a jury trial, will take place on April 29 from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and April 30 from 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Toronto Region Board of Trade, located at 77 Adelaide St. W. in Toronto.
The two-day event is eligible for three hours of Professionalism and up to nine hours of Substantive CPD content.
