MacLeod Law Firm expands with addition of new associate

MacLeod Law Firm is continuing its expansion by adding employment and human rights lawyer Nadia Halum.

The addition of the new associate signals further growth to the already bustling Toronto law firm founded by employment lawyer Doug MacLeod.

With offices in both Toronto and Barrie, MacLeod says bringing Halum aboard allows his firm to expand its presence in the employment law field.

“I’ve been consciously growing the business the last two or three years, and this is a reflection of that growth,” MacLeod tells AdvocateDaily.com.

While articling at MacLeod Law Firm, Halum pursued her interest in human rights issues and social justice.

“I have become involved in some high-level files at the firm,” says Halum. “This allows me the opportunity continue my interest in employment law.”

Halum moved to Toronto to attend Osgoode Hall Law School after pursuing her bachelor of arts degree in international relations at the University of British Columbia.

While at Osgoode, she was a legal intern at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre which provides legal advice and assistance to those who have experienced discrimination in Ontario.

She was also a student co-ordinator and caseworker at the Centre for Spanish Speaking Peoples’ legal clinic. Hallum graduated from Osgoode near the top of her class in 2016.

MacLeod has been practising employment law for more than 20 years. He says the firm prides itself on providing results-oriented advice and representation to Ontario employees and focuses exclusively on employment law.

Another associate at the firm, Nicole Simes, was recently nominated as one of the Top 25 Most Influential by Canadian Lawyer in the category of “young influencers” for making an impact on the community and the profession.

“I would say Nicole is one of the most active lawyers at the Human Rights Tribunal,” MacLeod says.
