TLA presenting 'Ask the Competition Lawyer' event

As part of its ‘Ask the Expert Series 2016’, the Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA) is hosting an upcoming program where participants will be able to find out more about the Competition Act and how it may impact clients.

On May 4, ‘Ask the Competition Lawyer’ will feature expert panelists Stephan Luciw, James Musgrove and Michael Osborne, who will discuss how the Competition Act applies to every business in Canada — big and small.

The act prohibits price fixing, bid rigging, and other conspiracies, and provides remedies for conduct that can lessen competition, such as abuse of dominance, refusals to deal, and mergers. It also enforces truth in advertising by businesses and contains serious penalties, including imprisonment for up to 14 years, and $25 million fines. The Competition Bureau has enforced the act against some of Canada’s largest — and smallest — businesses.

Attendees can submit questions on the Competition Act in advance to, or at the event. All questions will be anonymously presented to the panel for their expert feedback.

The event will run from 5:15 – 7 p.m., with registration starting at 5 p.m. in the TLA Lawyers Lounge, located on the 2nd floor of the 361 University Avenue Courthouse in Toronto.

The program is accredited for one hour 45 minutes of Substantive CPD content.
