Rosen, Sunshine recognized in Best Lawyers

Toronto health lawyers Elyse Sunshine and Lonny Rosen have been included in the 2015 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada.

Both lawyers are partners at Rosen Sunshine LLP, a member of the Toronto Chapter of the International Network of Boutique Law Firms.

The firm practises in all areas of health-law advocacy and advice, primarily in regulatory matters, including College investigations, complaints, discipline, quality assurance, capacity and registration proceedings, as well as appeals and reviews of regulatory decisions. In addition to representing individual, corporate and institutional clients in civil and regulatory proceedings involving health-law matters, the firm acts on behalf of professional staff in disputes with hospitals and assists health-care facilities and professionals with a wide variety of health-law issues, including privacy, the delivery of and charging for care and other aspects of practice management. They also assist health care providers to develop policies that comply with privacy law and to manage privacy breaches.

Sunshine serves as a member of the Research Ethics Board at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehab and is a founding board member of the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund. She's also a member of the Medico-Legal Society, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Advocate’s Society. She frequently presents to health professional groups on issues relating to health law and professional regulation.

Rosen has been recognized by his peers for the second straight year for inclusion in Best Lawyers for his expertise as a lawyer practising health care law.

He has served as chairman of the Health Law Sections of both the Canadian and Ontario Bar Associations. Rosen currently serves as a member of the board of directors of The Advocates’ Society and as a member of the executive of the CBA Health Law Section. He was recently appointed to the Consent and Capacity Board, an independent body created by the provincial government which conducts hearings regarding consent, capacity and mental health issues.

Rosen frequently writes and speaks on health law issues, including as a faculty member for Osgoode Professional Development’s Certificate Programs in Health Law and Mental Health Law and as co-Director for the Osgoode Certifcate in Professional Regulation and Discipline in the Ontario Health Sector.
