Grey Wowk Spencer LLP welcomes new partner

Alberta Indigenous rights litigator Leighton Grey and Lawren Wowk are pleased to welcome Hart Spencer into the firm’s new partnership of Grey Wowk Spencer LLP.

Spencer joined the firm in 2010 as an articling student, following the completion of his law degree at the University of Saskatchewan, says Grey, a senior partner with the firm.

“I had the honour of serving as Hart's principal during his articles of clerkship, and immediately recognized his great potential,” he says. “He has since become one of the most respected young lawyers in North Eastern Alberta, particularly as criminal defence counsel.”

Spencer has conducted homicide and other serious cases before the Court of Appeal, the Court of Queen’s Bench, and the provincial courts of Alberta and Saskatchewan, Grey says.

“He recently argued a successful entrapment defence in a drug case in what may become an important legal precedent,” he says. “In addition to criminal law, Spencer also represents clients in family law cases and appears regularly as counsel for the Director of Children’s Services in child welfare matters.

Originally from Oxbow, Sask., Spencer and his family reside on the golf course in Goodsoil, Sask.
