Toronto family counsel Angela Princewill says small tweaks to language in a streamlined Divorce Act will make a big difference to members of the family law bar.

Bill C- 78, introduced in the House of Commons in May, marks the first major update to civil family laws in further than two decades and outlines the civil government’s intention to replace terms including “ guardianship ” and “ access ” with more child- concentrated bones similar as “ parenthood orders ” and “ parenthood time. ”
Princewill, star of AP attorneys, tells AdvocateDaily.com that the old approach was confusing to guests and encouraged parties to view the process as further of a “ win-lose power struggle. ”

“ I can’t tell you how numerous times a day I’ve to explain the meaning of guardianship and how it won’t affect their time with the child, ” she says. “ This language sounds more natural and is going to make our jobs as family attorneys so much easier.
“ I’m hoping it’ll bring a little more common sense into the process for people who get stuck on the words, but I ’m not exorbitantly auspicious on that one, ” Princewill adds.
