Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says it’s key to have a chapter on the environment in the renegotiated North American Free Trade Agreement. McKenna says Canada wants to maintain the “right to regulate” resources such as drinking water.

As NAFTA talks entered their third round in Ottawa on Monday, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland is calling the process “very accelerated.” U.S. chief negotiator John Melle said talks are moving at “warp speed.”

Former prime minister Brian Mulroney, one of the architects of NAFTA, met Friday with Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland on the renegotiations of the trade deal. Mulroney said NAFTA creates millions of jobs in the U.S.     

Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says she was disappointed by a tweet from Conservative MP Gerry Ritz referring to her as a “climate Barbie.” McKenna says she would rather discuss her work than have to respond to sexist comments.

Hundreds of RCMP officers attended the Moncton, N.B., funeral of Const. Frank Deschenes, who was killed last week in a traffic collision. In a eulogy, a friend spoke of Deschenes' excitement at marrying the "woman of his dreams.”

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is questioning why edible marijuana is not included in the government’s bill to legalize pot. Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale says work is ongoing to regulate cannabis in “all of its forms.”

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer went head-to-head in the House of Commons over the government’s recent small business tax plan. Trudeau says Scheer “does not understand” the Liberal proposal.

Omar Khadr had some bail conditions eased at a Friday hearing in Edmonton, but he was denied a bid to have unsupervised visits with his controversial sister, Zaynab Khadr. The former Guantanamo Bay detainee’s lawyer outlines the rules.
