Joel Watson returns to Shibley Righton LLP

February 14, 2014 – Shibley Righton LLP is pleased to announce that Joel Watson is returning to the firm as a Partner in the Litigation Group. Early in his career, Joel articled at Shibley Righton LLP and then was an associate with the firm.

Joel maintains a counsel practice and frequently serves as trusted advisor to private and public corporations. Joel has a particular background in resource, infrastructure and land development matters, including condo litigation and the defense of architects and engineers.

He has appeared in every level of court in Ontario, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, various tribunals and private courts.

Joel says: "I am very pleased to have returned home to continue my practice where it began over 20 years ago. Returning to Shibley Righton will enable me to deliver the highest levels of legal services to my clients from a trusted and results-orientated platform."

Joel is a member of the Board of Directors of the Churchill Society for the Advancement of Parliamentary Democracy and a trustee of the Governor General’s Horse Guards Foundation. He is a member of the Advisory Board to the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies. Joel is on the Fundraising Committee of True Patriot Love and a member of the Treble Victor Group.

In 2012, Joel was a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, which honours Canadians whose achievements have benefited their fellow citizens, their communities, their organizations and their country.

Joel holds an LL.B. (magna cum laude) from the University of Ottawa, 1994 and a B.A. (Honours) from Wilfrid Laurier University, 1988. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1996.
