Cohen elected to CFAS ethics-law group

Toronto fertility lawyer Sara Cohen has been elected co-chair of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society’s (CFAS) Ethics-Law Special Interest Group.

Cohen, who will take on the role of law co-chair for a two-year term alongside ethics co-chair Shawn Winsor, has been active in the ethics-law special interest group for a number of years, including presenting at its annual meeting in 2012 and assisting to organize the 2013 Ethics Symposium.

Looking ahead, Cohen says she would like to see the special interest group "take an active role both within the CFAS and in the community at large by commenting on current and proposed laws, cases and new technologies. I am well aware that reproductive technologies inherently involve ethical complexities, as has been highlighted to me as a member of the Ethics Committee at LifeQuest, and I look forward to working together with the ethicists, too."
