Nicolle Kopping-Pavars

Nicolle Kopping-Pavars, principal of Toronto's NKP Law, focuses on family law and is a strong proponent of mindfulness training for lawyers and judges.
After earning her Bachelor of Arts in 1992 and Bachelor of Laws in 1996 from Unisa and Witwatersrand University in South Africa, Ms. Kopping-Pavars was admitted as a lawyer in South Africa in 1998.
She immigrated to Canada in 2001, where she obtained her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ottawa (National Committee of Accreditation) before being called to the Ontario Bar in 2008.
She is currently a lawyer in good standing in both South Africa and with the Law Society of Ontario.
Ms. Kopping-Pavars’ practice focuses on collaborative family law, including separation and divorce, mediation, fertility law, and third-party reproduction, including surrogacy, egg donation, sperm donation and embryo donation.
In addition, she is an agent for the office of the children’s lawyer, a collaborative law trainer, a certified screener for domestic violence and power imbalances for family arbitration, and a certified family law mediator.
While in South Africa, Ms. Kopping-Pavars was involved in a court case that led to a decision that contributed towards the law in South Africa changing with respect to the legal rights of unmarried fathers.
Ms. Kopping-Pavars is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, the National Committee on Accreditation Certification in Canada, the Law Society of South Africa, the Mediation Association in South Africa, the Association of Family Lawyers in South Africa, and the National Association of Women Business Owners.
In addition to her legal work, Ms. Kopping-Pavars has been a director of the Canada South Africa Chamber of Business, and a volunteer at the Johannesburg Legal Aid Bureau, as well as the Cotlands Baby sanctuary, a home for abandoned, abused and neglected children.
