Presser to co-chair LSUC Criminal Law & Charter event

Toronto criminal lawyer Jill Presser will co-chair the upcoming ‘Criminal Law and the Charter’ program, presented by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC).

On Sept. 17, Presser and fellow expert presenters will deliver up-to-the-minute analysis on the right to privacy in digital media and on proportionality and discretion in sentencing. Participants will learn about the latest principles affecting the constitutional rights of the accused in the criminal law context, including:

  • What constitutes unreasonable delay?
  • What are the limits on the use and disclosure of lawfully acquired information?
  • Does s.24(1) provide a remedy against statutory minimums?
  • When and how should you bring a Charter motion?

The event will run from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Donald Lamont Learning Centre, located at 130 Queen St. W. in Toronto and via live webcast. The program is eligible for three hours 45 minutes of Substantive and 15 minutes of Professionalism CPD content.
