Heuristica CEO to speak at National Privacy and Data Governance Congress

Toronto eDiscovery lawyer Crystal O’Donnell will share her insights on balancing proportionality and privacy protection in the disclosure of electronic information at the upcoming National Privacy and Data Governance Congress in Calgary.

On April 6 from 1:15 – 2:45 p.m., O’Donnell, founder and CEO of Heuristica Discovery Counsel, will present a session entitled “Balancing Proportionality and Privacy Protection in eDiscovery,” where she will discuss why the intersection of privacy law and the obligation to produce electronic information in processes and proceedings (such as civil litigation, regulatory and internal investigations, criminal law, and access to information requests) requires a multifaceted balance between proportionality, disclosure, and the need to protect third-party privacy interests.

While it is almost impossible to achieve perfection in protecting privacy rights given increasing volumes and types of data, this session will discuss some of the technology and approaches available that can improve the ability to identify and protect personal information in the production process. O’Donnell will also highlight developing best practices in electronic discovery and provide suggestions to help find the correct balance between the competing interests.
