"Build a better student; legal writing for students and new lawyers: writing effective memoranda of law." Thursday, October 5, 2017. 5-6:45pm

Our "Build a Better Student" continues with "Legal writing for students and new lawyers: Writing effective memoranda of law." Thursday, October 5, 2017. Registration opens at 5pm., and the Nutshell will start promptly at 5:15pm.

An effective legal memorandum is an essential communication tool. Your ability to cogently and efficiently present legal facts, recap case law, and present an argument in a timely fashion is invaluable when earning the trust of others, whether they are clients or colleagues. Here’s a chance to gain from a seminar we have constructed specifically to share road-tested and accepted techniques and practices that can give a student or new call the jump start that will propel them throughout their career.

In this Nutshell seminar, "Legal Writing for Students and New Lawyers", Mark Gannage, Litigation Solicitor, and Neil Guthrie, Director, Professional Development, Research & Knowledge Management, Aird & Berlis LLP, will apply their years of experience in answering questions and providing drafting examples. We invite you to submit a sample of your writing before October 1st, and receive focussed, constructive notes from our experts. See our flyer for further details.

Writing a memo is easy; writing a convincing legal memorandum is a learned skill. Part art, part science, writing with certainty and clarity gives you the opportunity to excel and stand out in your chosen career. Take this opportunity to learn from the best. Bring your questions and concerns, and apply the communication skills you'll use every day in your real “world of work” writing assignments.

This evening's Nutshell is CPD approved for 90 minutes of Professionalism Content.

This tailored attitude to CPD is what a TLA Nutshell is all about. TLA Nutshells run in the evening, generally last a couple of hours, and offer CPD credits in a collegial, informal atmosphere. Our seminars are designed, written and presented by acknowledged professionals and thought leaders from the Toronto community. Join us for interesting talks and great conversations. Be sure to check out the rest of our events, both educational and social, on our webpage.
