Audrey Shecter designated as family law specialist by LSUC

Audrey Shecter, a lawyer with Toronto’s Beard Winter LLP, has been certified as a specialist in family law by the Law Society of Upper Canada.

Shecter has more than 15 years of experience guiding spouses through separation and divorce, handling all matters, including property division, parenting and access, child and spousal support, marriage contracts and private adoptions.

The Certified Specialist Program recognizes members of the Law Society of Upper Canada who have met established standards of experience and knowledge requirements in one or more designated areas of law and have maintained exemplary standards of professional practice, according to the society's website.

Shecter is now one of 68 family lawyers with specialty designation in all of Ontario.

“I believe in providing the best family law support, advice and advocacy for my clients as they endure some of the most trying times of their lives," Shecter tells

"It’s nice to meet the benchmark that’s set by the law society,” Shecter says.

The process was rigorous, involving detailed analyses of 10 of Shecter’s cases over the past five years. The application required supporting documents such as orders and draft agreements as well as references and proof of continuing education credits.

Shecter, who was a law librarian for 10 years before becoming a lawyer, says while there are many talented family lawyers throughout Ontario, she hopes the specialty designation sets her apart.

"It's a designation I am honoured to hold," she says.
