Event tonight to benefit food bank

Trusts and estates law isn’t Toronto-area lawyer Charles Ticker’s only passion.

Every Monday night, he returns to the musical roots he discovered at age 13 as he rehearses with The Faded Genes, an eight-piece ‘60s and ‘70s rock band.

“You always come back to do what you’re passionate about, and I started playing in my teens,” says Ticker, who plays keyboards. “You tend to gravitate back to what you enjoyed when you were younger.”

The band is scheduled to perform at the Honest Lawyer on York Boulevard today, and is asking for donations to the Whitchurch-Stouffville Food Bank in lieu of a cover charge.

“Most gigs we do are for charities,” says Ticker. “Our singer had a connection with the food bank and knew they needed some help. It’s just a way of giving back to the community.”

Ticker says all members of the band enjoy supporting community organizations.

“We’re not in it for the money because none of us are professional musicians,” he says. “We just feel it’s a way of giving back. We just enjoy playing in front of an audience.”

With a busy career at his estate law firm, Ticker says music is a welcome release.

“I look forward to playing,” he says.
